Taylor Swift Postpones Rio Concert Due to Extreme Heat and Tragic Loss of a Fan.
In the aftermath of a heartbreaking incident and soaring temperatures, Taylor Swift has decided to reschedule her Saturday night concert in Rio de Janeiro as part of her first ‘Eras Tour.’ This decision comes just a day after the unfortunate demise of a fan.
Taylor Swift had plans for two more shows in Rio on Saturday and Sunday, which Mayor Eduardo Paes announced would be rearranged. The Saturday night concert is now scheduled for Monday, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the safety and well-being of fans.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Swift expressed, “The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow artists, and crew always come first.”
According to a statement from the concert organizers in Brazil, a 23-year-old fan passed away during Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ concert in Rio on Friday night.
Taylor Swift shared her grief on Instagram, stating, “I can’t believe I’m writing this. I am utterly devastated to hear about the tragic loss of a fan just before my show tonight.” She went on to describe the fan as “unbelievably beautiful and so young.” The concert’s organizers, Time4Fun, identified the fan as Ena Clara Benevides Machado.
In a statement posted on Instagram, the organizers explained, “Last night, Ena Clara felt unwell, and the firemen and paramedics team immediately took care of her, transporting her to the medical center at Nilton Santos Stadium, following the initial medical protocol.” The statement continued, “Seeing her condition, the medical team decided to transfer her to Salgado Filho Hospital, where, after nearly an hour of emergency care, unfortunately, she passed away. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Ena Clara Benevides Machado.”
The cause of death has not been officially announced.
While authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, Mayor Paes stated on social media that the loss of a young woman’s life is “unacceptable.” He added, “We are still gathering more information about what happened in her circumstances.” “In any case, I have already ordered the Municipal Executive Operations Chief to demand action regarding the construction of the show.”
As officials delve into the details of the tragic incident, Mayor Paes emphasized that the Municipality will demand additional water supply points, more brigades and ambulances, and entrance provision one hour before the show at the new water distribution point.
In videos circulating on social media, Swift can be seen addressing the crowd, expressing the need for water. At one point, she even threw a water bottle to someone in the crowd.
Brazil’s weather service had issued a warning of high temperatures, showing a red alert for a significant part of the country, including Rio. According to the weather channel, the maximum temperature on Saturday, with 64% humidity, was 96 degrees Fahrenheit.
It remains unclear whether Swift’s upcoming show in Rio on Sunday will be rescheduled due to weather concerns. Following Rio, Swift is set to perform three shows in São Paulo starting from November 24.
